FLOOR TRADER HELPS HSSM & MOBILE SPCA BY COLLECTING
SUPPLIES AND RAISING FUNDS
Floor Trader asked the community to join them in their effort to help the Humane Society of South Mississippi & Mobile SPCA bring supplies and adopt animals, and the community answered with a loud roar.
During the month of June, the three locations gathered much needed supplies, cash donations from their vendors and gave out free adoption certificates to anyone who brought in a donation to the cause.
Each store hosted a pet adoption day where the shelters brought in pets of all shapes and sizes to be adopted into their new home. The supplies drive was a huge success, as 245 lbs of pet food, 247 lbs of kitty litter, 15 gallons of bleach, 2 gallons of shampoo, 7 lbs of treats and pounds and pounds of other supplies were collected. Five animals found new homes during the three adoption drives with the adoption fee being paid by the Floor Trader.
“We also reached out to our suppliers and vendors and asked them to support us in our cause and they flooded us with assistance. We raised $1,200 for the two shelters along with the supplies that the community brought in” said Vicki Rhodes Marketing Director for the Floor Trader. “We were overwhelmed with the support, and hope to be able to do this again next year with even more success. Especially with the recent events of the intake of large quantities of dogs in need, we are thrilled that we could help.”
The Floor Trader has locations in Gulfport, Gautier & Mobile and they often do community promotions in all three areas. Local Volunteers Shave Their Heads to Support Childhood Cancer Research
Local St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser event to raise money for life-saving research
(Gulfport, MS) / (July 23, 2012) – It takes a community to cure childhood cancer. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at Lynn Meadow’s Discovery Center on September 9, 2012 from 2-5pm where many volunteers will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money for life-saving children’s cancer research.
There will be refreshments and Big Top Photobooth will be there to capture the event along with other entertainment.
Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide, more than 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and it remains the leading cause of death by disease among children in the United States. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation grant funds are critical to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
“We need all kinds of fundraisers and volunteers, so if you are interested in making a difference in the community, please get in touch with us. You don’t have to shave your head to volunteer or raise funds.” Said Braden, one of the event coordinators. She and Mary Carnley Heidingsfelder along with their sponsors Healing Hands Chiorpractic of Gulfport and the Floor Trader of Gulfport, Gautier and Mobileare hosting this event in honor of Mary’s son, Evan who is currently undergoing treatment for Leukemia. “It’s so important that we have money for this research, it truly saves lives” said Braden.
If you would like more information on volunteering, fundraising or becoming a shavee for this event, please contact Lauren Braden at email@example.com or visit the event fundraising site at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/8972/2012
